The original Quake, which launched in the summer of 1996, was id’s successor to the Doom series. More details are available at Bethesda’s announcement. Expansion packs Scourge of Armagon, Dissolution of Eternity, and Dimension of the Past (the new, MachineGames-created add-on), are now included as part of the standard Quake package. The game’s score, produced by Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor, is also included. In terms of visuals, players can expect improved lighting and models, dynamic shadows, motion blur, and anti-aliasing. On PC, Steam and Bethesda Launcher users who already own Quake will automatically receive the new version with a free download. The remastered Quake is available now on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One, and is playable through backward compatibility on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The new version of Quake includes 4K resolution support, cross-platform play, enhanced visuals, and a brand-new expansion pack from Wolfenstein developer MachineGames. And considering that this latest leak comes from reputable insider billbil-kun, it's much more legitimate than other gaming "leaks" out there. It would also be incredibly surprising if the game was shadow dropped but skipped Xbox Game Pass for some reason. This isn't the first time that we've heard word of a potential Quake 2 remaster, and so at this point it would be more surprising if the game wasn't announced at QuakeCon next week. Now it seems like history will repeat itself with the rumored Quake 2 remaster. QuakeCon is traditionally home to some surprise announcements, like a couple of years ago when a remastered version of the first Quake was surprise-dropped at the show. QuakeCon is an annual convention primarily dedicated to Quake that also gives love to other Bethesda games.
